The 52 Democrats who fled to the US Capitol to avoid a vote on a piece of state legislation face the real prospect of being arrested. They travelled to DC in order to stymie the Republicans push to pass an election integrity bill. Their aim was to stop the passage of the bill by denying Republicans the quorum needed to pass legislation. A quorum is reached when two-thirds of the 150 members are in the chamber. Bills cannot be passed without the quorum being reached, which is why the 52 Democrats left. In response, the Texas Supreme Court said law enforcement can round up the Democratic legislators and bring them back to the state Capitol’s House chambers.
